There have been many changes to today’s healthcare services, and the common theme is a need for objective evidence to allow healthcare providers to deliver the best possible care to patients in a way that offers value for money.
Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is about collating the available evidence, reviewing that evidence to identify relevant studies, and assessing those studies to ensure their validity and value. The findings can also be used to support assessments of cost-effectiveness.
Many of the key aspects of EBM are explained in our popular What is...? series, which is intended to demystify some of the terminology, techniques and practices used to assess clinical and economic evidence within healthcare.
HMC has a wealth of experience in this field, including relationships with many of the UK’s leading centres of EBM, such as the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine in Oxford, the School of Health and Related Research at the University of Sheffield, the York Health Economics Consortium and Swansea University Centre for Health Economics.
This expertise, combined with our rigorous approach to collecting and analysing evidence, enables us to produce robust systematic reviews, meta-analyses and economic assessments in diverse therapy areas.
